This series includes 6 boxes, spanning the years 1952-1986, with the bulk of the records falling between 1970-1986. The records are divided into four categories: Adminstrative files, Conventions and Conferences, , and Publications. The Administrative files contain records of committees of the division, its constitution and bylaws, and meeting minutes. The Conventions and Conferences files contain programs from the Speech Communication Association annual meetings dated 1976-85, and some material from the meetings of other associations. The files concerning contain a manuscript for the volume as well as correspondence regarding its writing and publication. Publications include copies of (1976-86) and the Newsletter of the Interpretation Division (1962-77). The Speech Communication Association of America was founded in 1914, and was known then as the National Association of Academic Teachers of Public Speaking. The Association was renamed the Speech Association of America in 1946, and in 1970 assumed its current name. Also in 1970, the Interpretation Division of the Speech Communication was formed from a group which had been in existence since 1952 and had been known as the Interpretation Interest Group.
